Update Feb. 26 - 2010 Pro's Or Con's " Alkaline Diet - Weight Loss Program " By Health Experts

Alkaline diet is defined as a diet program which helps to maintain the blood Ph levels in it's natural state between 7.35 and 7.45, thereby helping our body in absorption in vitamins and minerals resulting in weight loss. Today, our diet contains more acidities leading to chronic illness and loss of health. By increasing consumption of fruit and vegetables, it helps to reduce the intake of meat, salt, and refined starches, thereby benefiting our health. It is recommended by some practitioners if a person has the following symptoms of lack of energy, excessive mucous production, nasal congestion, over weight, etc. Please consult your doctor before applying.

Discover the Benefits of Alkaline Diet Food
By Graham Stoking Platinum Quality Author

The key to the alkaline diet is to choose more nutritious alkalizing foods. Fortunately, alkaline diet food doesn't have to be bland. In actuality, alkaline-producing whole foods come in numerous of textures, flavors, and colors, adding a pleasant variety to your meals.

1. Choose Fresh Fruit When on the Go

When you're perpetually on the go, it's tempting to grab a snack bar and a soda from a vending machine. But these types of convenience food are acid-forming, fattening, and just plain bad for you. Alkalizing fruits are a wholesome alternative. An apple, an
apricot, or a slice of pineapple is convenient enough to eat after a jog or on your break at work.

2. Use a Little Meat to Add Flavor

Many people have steak, roast beef, or fried chicken as the main course. Sometimes the only "vegetable" in sight is a sprig of parsley. For a healthier and more alkalizing meal, have a vegetable-rich salad, saute, or soup, with a few ounces of lean meat, beans, tempeh, or almonds to make sure you get your protein.

3. Eat More Vegetables

Whether you have them steamed, stir-fried, or raw, vegetables are the single most valuable category of food for weight loss and optimal internal pH. Many people rarely think beyond lettuce and tomatoes, but they're missing out on many health benefits. For example, yellow, orange, and red vegetables can make sure that you get enough beta-carotine. Meanwhile, dark leafy green vegetables like chard, collard greens, and spinach are often a great source of vitamin K.

4. Avoid High-Calorie Dips

For a healthy snack, cut up raw vegetables and smear them with a bit of hummus, bean dip, salad dressing, or salsa. But avoid fattening (and acidifying) cream- and cheese-based dips, such as onion dip.

5. Don't Overdo It on Alcohol

Nearly all alcoholic beverages cause your body to become more acidic. Even moderate alcohol consumption can have other negative effects on your health, as well. For example, studies indicate that alcohol raises the risk of esophageal and laryngeal cancer, and may also increase the risk of breast cancer by as much as 60 percent.

The Acid Vs Alkaline Diet - Key Facts
By Graham Stoking Platinum Quality Author

Acid vs alkaline diet is a relatively uncommon synonym for the alkaline diet. This healthy diet is sometimes also termed the acid alkaline diet or the acid alkaline balance diet. Despite the differences in terminology, however, these phrases all refer to the same concept: By eating more alkalizing foods and fewer acidifying ones, you can cause your body to become more alkaline. In turn, a mildly alkaline internal pH will provide you with the best chance to experience a perfect state of well-being.

In large part, health is a matter of balance. Perfect balance equals perfect health. On the other hand, an imbalance leads to illness. For instance, too high a caloric intake causes obesity, while too low a caloric intake causes wasting. Too high or too low a dietary sodium level... Too high or too low a blood level of LDL cholesterol... Too much or too little acidity... In every case, the center of the balance beam is the best place to be.

In practice, however, few people in the United States are at risk of taking in too few calories or too little sodium, or of having a dangerously low level of LDL cholesterol. Our contemporary diet pushes us in one direction. Similarly, it is far more common for our bodies to be too acidic than too alkaline. This is because we eat a great deal of meat, dairy products, processed grains, sugar, and alcohol, but few of us get enough alkaline-forming fruits and vegetables in our diets.

People often think of an opposition between acid and alkaline elements. But if we want to be exact, instead of thinking of it as the "acid vs alkaline diet," it would be better to think of it as the "acid alkaline balance diet." Like yin and yang in Traditional Chinese Medicine, acidity and alkalinity are not inherently positive or negative. It is our responsibility to attain a state of balance between these interconnected elements.

Part A. - The Acid Alkaline Balance Diet - Pros and Cons
By Graham Stoking Platinum Quality Author

The acid alkaline balance diet is often termed the acid alkaline diet, and sometimes it is simply described as the alkaline diet. Nevertheless, although there are a number of different names for this popular approach to eating, the acid alkaline balance diet may be the most suitable one. That is because the core fact at the heart of this diet is that you should eat in a way that helps you to achieve a balanced internal pH.

It is true that some fad diets that you may have seen tell you to eat exclusively alkalizing foods. In actuality, however, eating only alkaline-producing foods is both unhealthy and impractical.

To begin with, a 100 percent alkalizing diet would be pretty boring. Not only would poultry, fish, and dairy products be entirely off limits, but so would beans, tomatoes, and even whole-grain breads.

A second issue with such a diet is that you would miss out on important nutrients which are found in some acidifying foods. For example, tomatoes are high in cancer-fighting lycopene. And at least one study shows that prunes may guard against osteoporosis.

As its name suggests, the goal of the acid alkaline balance diet is not to go to an extreme of alkalinity. Since this is the case, you don't need to eat only alkalizing foods in order to create an ideal acid-alkaline balance.

But you probably do need to eat many more alkalizing foods, and fewer acidifying ones. Whether you eat this food or that food is not as important as the overall ratio of acidifying to alkaline-forming components in your diet.

This is to say that if you completely remove sugar and acidifying beverages like soft drinks, you have a little more margin for error, which means that you can eat a little more meat and dairy products without your body becoming too acidic. To give you another example, if you choose to eat poultry, you should compensate by eating less dairy, and so on.

There is no one right answer for how to use your "budget" of acidifying foods, but in general it is always a good idea to emphasize foods that are low in calories and rich in vitamins, minerals, fiber, and other health-giving nutrients.

The bottom line, however, is that no matter what kind of diet you currently have, you can start making simple changes to create a healthier acid alkaline balance.

Why the Alkaline Diet Beats Low Carb
By Graham Stoking Platinum Quality Author

The alkaline diet is a way of eating that focuses on foods which shift your internal pH toward the alkaline end of the spectrum. This theory is not new, but its popularity has dramatically increased over the past decade, and interest continues to grow.

Many are confused because the words "alkaline" and "alkalizing" are two different things. This is to say that a food that tastes very acidic, such as lemon juice or apple cider vinegar, can actually have a strongly alkalizing effect once it has been digested and assimilated. By the same token, a food that tastes sweet rather than acidic, such as cane sugar, is often strongly acidifying once it has been absorbed.

The Alkaline Diet vs. Popular Low-Carb Diets

If you have thought about trying the alkaline diet, you may be wondering how it contrasts with other common diets, particularly low-carb diets including the Atkins diet and the South Beach diet.

Initially, the alkaline diet seems to be the polar opposite of the low-carb diet, but the truth is more complex. As you are constantly reminded, the low-carb diet restricts your intake of carbs, including bread, pasta, potatoes, sugar, beans--even fruits and vegetables. On the other hand, you are allowed to eat as much as you want when it comes to pork rinds, cheese, and other foods that are rich in protein and fat.

In contrast, the alkaline diet restricts consumption of meat and dairy products, nearly all foods that make the body more acidic. Another difference is that while low-carb diets limit fruits and vegetables, these foods are strongly encouraged on the alkaline diet. This is because fresh produce has the most nutrients and the fewest calories of any food, making it a must-have for anyone who wants to boost energy and lose weight.

Surprisingly, however, the alkaline and low-carb diets do have something in common. Both diets encourage people to eat less sugar and processed grains, but for different reasons. Fans of the low-carb diet point out that these abundant carbs are a major reason that people have become so much fatter over the past few decades. In the words of diet guru Barry Sears, the central aisles of any grocery store are basically one big chunk of carbs divided up into different bags and boxes. (There's a lot of fat in those packages, too.)

Interestingly, these processed carbs also tend to be acidifying. This is because the most common grains, namely corn, rice, and wheat, contain acidifying compounds.

When you get down to it, the main difference between these two diets is that the low-carb diet takes a sledgehammer to carbs, while the alkaline diet uses a scalpel. True, some carbs are very harmful, particularly when you eat too much of them. But something is wrong when anti-carb hysteria reaches such a pitch that people remove even apples, carrots, and celery from their diets. These nutritious foods are highly beneficial, and they're definitely not why so many people are fat. On the contrary, they are the key to losing weight, because they fill you up without adding many calories to your daily intake.

Alkaline Diet Explained
By Yuri Elkaim Platinum Quality Author

Have you heard about the alkaline diet? Have you wondered what exactly that means? Are you a little curious as to the benefits of this plan? Want to know how it differs from being a vegetarian, a vegan, or a raw food eater?

The first thing you need to understand is what an alkaline food item is. These are raw food items that, if you were to burn them in a flame, they would leave behind an ash that has a basic pH rating of seven or higher. Rather than use this as cooking information, followers of the acid alkaline diet use this combustion as a comparison to how the body breaks down and uses food as a fuel source.

These foods leave behind minerals like calcium, copper, iron, magnesium and zinc when they are consumed by fire. Foods that leave this kind of residue include low-glycemic index fruits and vegetables, citrus fruits, tubers, roots and nuts. Switching your diet to solely these food items, it is believed, will help keep the body's overall pH balance at a slightly alkaline level, which is thought to be a natural and healthy state. Foods to avoid on this plan include animal proteins, processed foods, unnatural sugars, and stimulants like caffeine.

A diet rich in alkaline foods is also thought to reduce the body's reliance on stored pH balancers such as the calcium in bones. Some studies have even shown that an alkaline-rich diet, or a regular use of supplements, can increase the amount of bone mass and muscle mass in older people, helping to offset conditions like osteoporosis in women and degenerative muscle wasting in the elderly. And while many say that more research is needed on the benefits of an alkaline diet, there have been studies done that show that the formation of kidney stones is largely prevented with an alkaline-rich diet.

Followers of the alkaline diet say that their food consumption is closer to what our ancestors would have originally eaten. They say that, before the onset of Western civilization, a typical human diet was unprocessed and uncooked plant matter. Grains were not edible until the discovery of tools like the mortar and pestle, and meats were an uncommon addition, depending on the hunting prowess of the tribe, rather than domestication of meat-bearing animals. Instead, people had to rely on the plants, fruits and vegetables that could be eaten without problematic preparations.

Proponents of an alkaline diet may do so to alleviate symptoms that they believe are due to larger amounts of acidic foods in the modern diet. Practitioners say that people suffering from frequent illnesses and headaches, or an overall lack of energy, and women who have ovarian and benign breast cysts might benefit from an alkaline diet, or at the very least, a reduction in the amounts of red meat and processed grains that a person consumes.

Fight Diabetes With an Alkaline Diet!
By Nina Meister

Diabetes is a dangerous chronic disease that can eventually lead to death. In the meantime, it can lead to numerous detrimental complications such as blindness, kidney disease, amputation and neurological issues. Diabetes can also lead to heart disease and stroke.

What's the problem? ACID! If you have diabetes or any other disease, it is likely that your body is very acidic (the medical term is Acidosis). Acidity is the result of a bad diet, drinking soda and other acidic drinks- even many of the so called healthy drinks on the market including most bottled waters.

Acidity is also caused by stress, anxiety and the overall environment we live in. Our bodies were not designed to metabolize and digest processed foods, large amounts of animal proteins, chemicals and pesticides. Diseases such as diabetes love a cozy, polluted, acidic environment. This environment allows disease to progress, run rampant, and wreak havoc on your heath and quality of life!

The Keys to Fighting Diabetes - Return Your Body to its Natural Alkaline State

  • Eat more raw fruits and vegetables- they are very alkaline. Buy organic when you can. Clean your produce thoroughly as pesticides left on foods metabolize to acid in your body. If you don't like raw vegetables, steam them lightly to a slight tenderness. This alone could improve your diabetes.
  • Reduce the amount of animal protein in your diet. Use less meat in your meals by replacing some of your meat with legumes such as dried beans (rinsed and cooked), nuts, seeds, and even try some soy products.
  • Reduce your consumption of dairy products. Try soy milk for example and plain unsweetened yogurt.
  • Reduce the stress and anxiety in your life and learn how to deal with what you can't change. Stress alone creates massive amounts of acid in your body. Diabetes loves the acid created by stress! There are many good books and audio materials on the market to help you relax. Stress and anger don't make issues go away.
  • Drink high quality alkaline antioxidant water. This will neutralize the acids created when your body metabolizes acidic food, pesticides, and other contaminants. Invest in a high quality water ionizer to make your alkaline water. Many people who start drinking alkaline water experience a significant improvement in their diabetes in a short amount of time. Many no longer need their medications.

Drinking healthy alkaline antioxidant water will put your alkalizing efforts way ahead of the game. This alone could help you get control of your diabetes quickly and naturally. Alkalizing by diet alone can be difficult, but water that detoxifies and energizes you is the key to changing your health and your life. You will have more energy, mental clarity, alkalizing enhances weight loss efforts and you will feel a renewed feeling of well-being. You can live a longer, healthier, happier life just by changing a few simple things in your diet and by changing the water you drink. You could take control of your diabetes instead of having your diabetes control you.

What is the Acid Alkaline Diet?
By Lee A. Murray Platinum Quality Author

If you've heard of the acid alkaline diet (which I'm assuming you have since you've landed on this article) then you probably have many questions. What is the acid alkaline diet? Is it as strict as it sounds? What can I really eat on this diet? Is it expensive? Let me try to help you answer some of these questions, as I have spent quite a lot of my time, focus, and efforts on this subject.

What Is The Acid Alkaline Diet?

Quite simply, this is a way of eating, drinking, and living that is designed to plump up and oxygenate your blood cells, making them stronger and more efficient. This boosts not only your immune system, but your energy, mood, and mental clarity in a very significant way.

This occurs as the result of a shift that takes place in the pH balance of your blood. Your blood has a certain acid to alkaline ratio that must be maintained at all times. You want to be slightly alkaline. Unfortunately, thanks to the good ole industrial revolution, our very lifestyles have prevented this from being the case for most of us.

Most of us are acidic, and it shows on our bodies, as well as in our hospitals. We're sicker and fatter than ever. This is directly contributed to living an acidic lifestyle. We get fat because our bodies actually store excess fat to bind to the acids, in an attempt to keep them from harming our vital organs and killing us!

When you go alkaline, your body no longer has any reason to hold onto this fat, and it lets go of it extremely quickly!

Is It As Strict As It Sounds?

As far as the foods you should avoid are concerned, this diet is extremely strict. However, it isn't really designed to be a "diet" at all, as this usually implies a temporary change in eating habits that concludes once your desired weight loss goal has been achieved.

Instead, it is intended to be a lifestyle shift, much like vegetarianism or veganism. If you go alkaline, you should plan to be in it for the long haul. In fact, I would describe the acid alkaline diet as vegetarianism on steroids!

However, with the right education and recipes at your disposal, you will find that it's really not as limited of an eating plan as it would appear to be at first glance.

What Can I Really Eat On This Diet?

The acid alkaline diet is primary plant-based, and focuses on the pH levels of various foods. Animal products are pretty much taboo, with the exception of a bit of fish here and there, if you like. There's a term used in the alkaline community... GO GREEN!

Raw, green leafy vegetables are the cornerstone of the lifestyle, as they have the most alkalizing effect on the blood. Big main course salads are encouraged. Avocados and olive oil are huge components of this way of eating, as are raw almonds and sprouts.

With some help from "alkalarian" experts, you can find many extremely inventive meal ideas that happen to be quite tasty!

Is It Expensive?

The acid alkaline diet is not cheap. You should expect to initially invest in some educational resources to help you navigate your way through the nuances of the lifestyle. You may also want to buy a juicer, pH test strips, certain specific supplements, and a tub of "green drink" powder.

It is also most beneficial for you to buy your produce in organic form, which as we all know, jacks up the price significantly! Quite a shame, if you ask me, that we have to spend so much money on stuff that's good for us. Don't you think?

And if you really want to go for the gusto, you could invest in a water ionizer, which is a machine that purifies and alkalizes your water. Not cheap by a long shot!

In Conclusion:

I believe that theoretically the acid alkaline diet is the most life-enhancing diet ever created. I say theoretically because there are many obstacles that work against us, as consumers. It's strict, expensive, and requires an entire makeover of your current lifestyle.

If you're one of those rare human beings who like to go for the gold and live life at its very peak, then this is exactly what you want! Alkalizing yourself is perhaps the most miraculous thing you could ever do for yourself. It has literally reversed diabetes and cancer on more than one occasion!

The benefits are endless. But you have really got to see those benefits as being worth your investment of time, money, and change.

The 3 Dangers Of The Alkaline Diet
By Jack Sinclair

The alkaline diet is becoming more popular that even
the South Beach diet and other trendy ways of losing weight.

It might be because it is highly effective, and besides
letting you return to your optimal weight, following an
alkalizing diet will boost your energy levels and overall
feelings of well being.

Like all things in life, there are dangers in following
the alkaline diet, and you should pay attention to avoid
the three biggest pitfalls.

First, never eat just alkaline foods. The body has some
need for acidic foods, and if you were to go extreme, and
consume only foods that become alkaline in your body, you
might deprive your body of some essentials.

Second, the alkalizing diets do not address essential nutrients.
If you are following an alkaline system strictly, you might be
failing to pay attention to things like Omega 3 (DHA), and other
essential fatty acids. You absolutely need good nutrition, and
should make sure you have a balanced diet that includes foods from
all the major food groups (cutting down on meats and dairies, of course).

Third, do not poison yourself! This might sound extreme, but that is
what is happening when you drink water from plastic bottles and even
from the kitchen tap. You need to pay attention to the toxins around
you, and to minimize your intake of things that are not good for you.

That includes some of the alkalizing products you find on the web, too.
Make sure you buy from a reputable source, and get yourself a Ph test kit,
to make sure you can measure the impact of any products you decide to try.

Going alkaline is an exciting way to add energy to your life, and to
bring back those feelings of youth. Avoid these pitfalls, and you might
experience the tremendous results others are having.

The Alkaline Diet Revealed!
By Emma Deangela

The diet of our ancestors is completely different from what we are so accustomed to these days. With the advancement of technology, the types of foods we consume are dragged along. A trip to the grocery store will shock you with aisles and aisles of processed food items and animal products. You will not have a hard time finding fast food when eating out as practically every corner of the street has one.

Even fad diets are partly to blame, for introducing a whole new eating habit, such as high-protein diets. In the recent years, consumption of animal products and refined food items has increased, as more and more people leave out the daily supply of fruits and vegetables in their diet.

It comes as no surprise why, these days, many are suffering from different types of allergies, bone diseases, heart problems and many others. Some health experts link these diseases to the type of foods we eat. There are certain types of food that disrupts a certain balance in our body that, during such instance, health problems arise. If only we could modify our eating habits, it is not unlikely that prevention of diseases and restoration of health is achieved.

The Importance of Alkaline

Our bodies need to maintain a healthy and steady alkaline to acid ratio, which is signified by the pH level of our body. The pH scale ranges from 0 to 14, and anything lower than 7 is considered acidic. Processed food items, meat and meat products, sweets, and some beverages and condiments generally produce excessive amounts of acidity in the body.

Acidosis, abnormally high acidity level in the blood and other tissues of the body, is the one thing that several different diseases have one thing in common. And many health experts believe that acidosis is responsible for a lot of fatal diseases that many people are afflicted with these days.

Alkaline, on the other hand, naturally occurs in the body to neutralize excess acidity in the body, which is its main role. However, alkaline also becomes depleted at times - especially when there is too much acid it needs to get rid of, and we do not consume foods that replenish our body's alkalinity.
